The best individual performers accepted awards across the three disciplines of cricket in each of the four senior grades in which the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club fielded teams.
Multiple award winners included Josh Bozzola, Josh Lawrence, Bailey Frauenfelder and Jyda House, proving their true worth across a couple of categories.
Special awards were struck to recognise some unique achievements in a number of fields with club president Glenn Brear being awarded the Cricket Victoria 50-Years’ Service to Cricket.
Kyle Archibald was selected as the Best Club Person, demonstrating outstanding leadership and selfless contributions, both on and off the field, proving a more than worthwhile recipient.
Three awards were struck for the first time in the club's history. Reid Clarke, Zach Moore and Matt Casey played 100 "A" Grade Games, a proud achievement for the individuals and the club, signifying key milestones by three of the YMCC's most influential and very popular players.
The highlight of the night was the presentation of a cheque by Damian Cummins to the family of Sean "Harry" McLarty for the funds raised by the YMCC conducting a BBQ stall at the Friday Night Foreshore Markets, with many local businesses supporting the cause and donating supplies to the BBQ stall. Cummins was magnificent in his efforts to coordinate the fundraiser.
The main individual awards were the Club Champion and the "A" Grade Best & Fairest. Bailey Frauenfelder collected the title of Club Champion by amassing more points across batting-bowling-fielding than any other player in the club and announcing himself as a talent on the rise.
Josh Lawrence crowned a dominant season by polling the most votes (13 votes as voted by the opposition captain in each A Grade match) and being announced the "A" Grade Best & Fairest for the 2021-2022 Season, from Runner Up, Brock McCabe (12 votes) and third placed Matt Casey (on 10 votes). It was a fitting reward for the big hitting batsman, who led the "A" Grade attack with power hitting and setting the tone for team to follow, plundering 321 runs at an average of 29.18 runs in the One Day Format.
Extra special mention was made of the "A" Reserve Grade who, under Captain Kyle Archibald, brought home another flag to Stan Hargreaves Oval, making that an overall 28 flags in 15 seasons. What made this achievement even more amazing was the fact it was for the eighth season in a row that "the Lakers" Second XI has won the Premiership (B Grade: - 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, then the introduction of A Reserve Grade: - 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 & 2021-2022). All in all, another triumphant season worth celebrating for "the Lakers".
