Organiser John Anstee said six teams were involved across the course of the short season.
“We’ve just enjoyed the final week of what has been an absolutely fantastic Deni Social Mixed Touch Rugby competition,” he said.
“What an incredible way to wrap up spring – with great competition, plenty of laughs, and that true Deniliquin spirit that makes our community so special.”
The competition’s final game of the evening, the grand final for all the bragging rights, was played between the Dream Team and Scrumdog Millionaires.
In a tight contest, which saw back and forth play and momentum, the two sides could not be split after two regulation halves.
Todd Thocolich and Andrew Mills were stand-outs for the Dream Team, while on the other side Cooper Willoughby and Ryan MacDonald were difficult to contain for their opponents.
Stuck on four tries apiece, the sides then played a period of overtime to see if they could be split.
Both sides were tired and trying to find the breakthrough in extra time, it just never came, for either side.
The game was declared a draw.
Players had access to refreshments and dinner each week, giving competitors a chance to socialise after a run around.
“The bar was open, and a delicious barbecue was supplied each week to fuel the fun,” Anstee said.
“All of this we were able to do while enjoying the amazing turf and facilities at the Deni Rams in the off-season.
“The enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and commitment from our participants and organisers has been integral to making this such a success.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and there’s even a bit of a groundswell developing for a potential competition again in the future.”
