The boats were launched into the river earlier than normal, ensuring that no-one missed out on their final ski of the season.
David Connolly kindly volunteered to put his wake boat into the water.
Again, there was a strong interest from kids in learning to wake board.
Thank you to David and his daughter Elka for providing kids with this unique opportunity and sharing their skills and knowledge.
Ski School is solely run by a group of fantastic and dedicated volunteers.
The community of Deniliquin are very lucky to have Ski School, and many embrace the opportunity to be able to learn to ski on the beautiful/scenic Edward River.
We have seen some amazing progress from our current skiers over the past few months and deserve to relish in their successes.
Encouragement awards were presented to Harvey Shevels, Harper Moroney and Millie Leech, who have consistently attended Ski School throughout the season, and are always enthusiastic to jump into the boat to keep practising their skills and gaining confidence on the boom bar.
The most improved awards were presented to Matilda Bootsman, and William and Olivia Kirby.
Water skiing was a completely new experience for all three kids.
William and his sister Olivia were both quite hesitant and nervous about giving it a try at the start of the season.
They showed great persistence, and by mid-March they both achieved their goal by skiing on two skis behind the boat.
Matilda joined Ski School at the beginning of February.
She quickly progressed from starting off on the seahorse to skiing behind the boat on two skis within a short time.
Matilda shows sheer determination and never gives up.
The Paul Jones Memorial Award for junior club member was awarded to Kayleah Harvey.
Kayleah was nominated for this award for her enthusiasm and passion, which she brings to Ski School each week.
Kayleah has been coming to Ski School for the past few years and has gone from strength-to-strength.
She finished off the season being able to confidently ski on one ski and is a beautiful skier.
She can confidently cross the wake and is mastering her turns on the slalom ski.
Kayleah not only enjoys water skiing but also the social aspect of the boat club.
Lastly, a special mention to regular adult skier Jenny Heuer, who is 66 years.
A big congratulations to Jenny on her breakthrough last week for managing to ski on one ski.
Jenny’s motto is ‘you are never too old to learn new things’ – a motto we can all learn to live by!
I would like to thank those who gave up their time on Friday nights to assist with the running of Ski School.
We require boat drivers and observers each week, and it is only through the time and dedication of the volunteers that Ski School is such a success.
Thank you to all the skiers who have supported Ski School.
We are proud to offer this program and are looking forward to next season.
Ski School will recommence on November 7, 2025 and everyone is welcome.
You are required to be a member of the Deniliquin Boat Club to ski on a Friday night.
