In A-grade, Seymour batted first and found the going tough against Puckapunyal’s tight bowling.
First-gamer Luke Woolan, batting at number three, ensured Seymour had a competitive total with a well compiled 32, with the home side managing an eventual 7-90 off its 20 overs.
In what was a close run chase all innings, another first-time player for Seymour in Nathan Woods bowled with pace and accuracy, finishing with figures of 2-3 off his four overs.
The nail-biting game came down to the second-last ball, which saw Puckapunyal dismissed for 85 runs to hand Seymour a five-run victory.
In B-grade, Avenel elected to bat first and it was a decision that paid dividends, with Avenel starting strongly, passing 100 for the loss of just two wickets.
Seymour fought back late in the innings with Mitch Thomas taking two wickets in one over, restricting Avenel to 6-145. Aaron Kent was the top scorer for the visitors with 60.
However, with willow in hand, the Seymour batsmen never got going. Matt Miller and Hamza Riaz managed nine and 10 respectively as the two highest scorers as the home side was bowled out for 47.
Warren Dowley (3-6) and Christian Papi (3-11) did the damage with the ball for the visitors, while Jamison Black (2-11) also picked up multiple wickets, as Avenel climbed to top spot on the ladder after two rounds.
