Rivah last week competed as part of the Riverina team at the NSW PSSA Golf State Championships.
Held at the Catalina Country Club in Batemans Bay from Tuesday to Thursday, the Deni North School student said she “really enjoyed the day even though my score wasn’t that great”.
“Our Riverina team consisted of six players - myself, Harper (Temora PS), Braxton (Narrandera PS), Cody (Khancoban PS), Archie (Tumut PS) and Tasman (Howlong PS),” Rivah said.
“Our team manager was Rhys Holloway. He is a teacher from Kapooka PS.
“On the first day we played a three person ambrose. My team was myself, Braxton and Tasman.
“In the ambrose we had a seven over par 79. Minus our handicap of 14.75, that gave us a 64.25.
“We think we finished in fourth or fifth on the first day.
“On the second day it was the first of our two individual stroke rounds.
“This was my first ever time playing a full 18 holes and pushing my own bag around without any help.
“I hurt my ankle on the 12th hole and had to have it taped up. I struggled a little bit after that.”
Despite resting her ankle overnight, the soreness also plagued Rivah on day three.
“The third day was the second round of our individual competition.
“I felt a little sore still but played much better than the day before. I was 12 shots better.
“The overall experience of the three days of golf was amazing.
“I now know what I need to do to try and get better and get to the next level of my golf.
“I have told my dad (Ross Taylor) that I want to start training in the mornings before school.
“This will be added to what we already do through the week in the afternoons.”
