Players were more confident and the standard improved across the board.
Although it was noticeable that the player at the net was proven very capable of hitting overhead shots straight into the net from about a metre away.
Mitre 10 put on a uniform display over 26 sets to win 17 sets, 121 games to Legal Eagles’ nine sets and 104 games.
There were a total of 11 sets decided by tie-break.
The Legal Eagles captains would have been disappointed that their team lost nine of these.
For Legal Eagles, Peter Rae was a three set winner while for Mitre 10 Serrin Canfield, Pip Metcalfe, Praveen Kotholla and John Sibree won their three sets.
In the match-up between Lucy Horne and Pip Metcalfe as number one ladies, it was just so tight all night.
Pip won 18 games while Lucy won 15 games, yet Pip was the three set winner.
Lucy will be determined to reverse this result in round five.
Peppin Planners were winners against Deniliquin Newsagency, but the result was well down on Peppin’s first round victory.
Peppin won 15 sets and 130 games to Deni Newsagency’s 11 sets, 101 games.
For Peppin, new chum Ruby Hicks set a high standard in winning her three sets against fellow ex- Hay resident Georgia Booth.
Jack Eastman and Zac Pearce were also three set winners, while India Hicks has returned to the comp and recorded her first three set win.
Like the struggle between Pip and Lucy, Carl Wenke and Michael Williams went at it hammer and tong in their match up.
Michael got the better result by winning two sets to one.
All three sets sets were decided by tie-break. So at the end of the evening Michael won two sets and 17 games and Carl one set and 16 games.
Next week, the two undefeated teams of Mitre 10 and Peppin Planners will match up to decide the early leader in this comp.
