The event begins next Friday, and will continue with some key events on the Saturday.
A highlight of the weekend will be the Sportsman’s Night on Saturday.
Three notable cricketing speakers have been secured - former Australian men’s ODI and T20 captain Aaron Finch, Australian men’s cricket coach Andrew McDonald and South Australian First Class and Big Bash League player Tim Ludeman.
Ticket sales for this event close at 2pm Tuesday, so organisers are urging anyone interested in attending not to delay any further.
Tickets are $70, with dinner included. Drinks will be available for purchase on the night.
They can be purchased at https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1270803?embed or at BJAS Partners, at 436 George St, Deniliquin.
There is also an option to donate to the DDCA Future Fund, to continue to improve the facilities in the Deniliquin and district area.
The Sportsman’s Night will begin at 7.30pm, after a full afternoon of cricket action at Deniliquin Memorial Park.
It is the opening round of the Murray Valley Cricket Association A-grade competition, with the Deni Rhinos to take on Barooga in Deniliquin from 12.30pm.
In celebration of the reunion, we’ve been bringing you the details of memorable games over the years.
This week’s reunion feature story is on the MVCA 2013/14 one day grand final, when the Deniliquin Rhinos won in their debut season in the competition.
The post-match report in the Pastoral Times read as follows:
Rhinos charge to one-day flag
Deniliquin has turned the tables on Murray Valley Cricket Association minor premier Nathalia with a stunning 72-run win in Sunday’s one-day grand final.
After earning a spot in the decider with a 208-run flogging of Berrigan on Saturday, the Rhinos blitzed the red-hot favourite to steal the 45-over title in their debut season in the competition.
Nathalia scored an eight-wicket win against Tocumwal on Saturday to go into the match in top place, but after dropping only one match during the regular season, it all came undone in the final.
The teams met mid-November and Nathalia won by six wickets on that occasion, and Deniliquin captain Brad Todd said his team’s results had been a good reward after the work put in to get into the association.
‘‘It’s a pretty good reward after we made the Twenty20 final and Nathalia beat us in that, then they beat us in the one-pager which woke us up a bit,’’ Todd said.
‘‘It showed us the quality of cricket we had to play and got us back into actually playing proper cricket.’’
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat at Cobram Showgrounds, Deniliquin opened its innings with an 86-run partnership between vice-captain Tim Hillier and young gun Brenton Loudon, who also took 1-22 to be named man of the match.
The pair batted for 18 overs, with Loudon (46) hitting six boundaries and two towering sixes before being removed when brothers Luke and Ash Quinn combined for the first wicket.
That brought Isaac Hogan (8) to the crease, but Hillier (64) was the next Rhino to head back to the pavilion, removed after a sturdy knock by Joel Cahir in the 26th over.
Todd (37) and Ash Germano (24 n.o.) contributed to Deniliquin’s big total of 7/218, while Anthony Bradley (18) was in sharp form before he was run out by Nathalia skipper Matt Jaensch.
For Nathalia, Cahir (2-34) and Nathan Walsh (2-41) were the main wicket-takers.
Some super tight bowling from Deniliquin restricted Nathalia’s run rate, and wickets fell at regular intervals after lunch.
Opening batsman Byron Smith did manage to bat most of the innings for a return of 53, but half of his teammates fell victim to Rhinos pace combo Scott Checkley (3-28) and Matt Robinson (2-19).
Ash Quinn (22) and Matt Sobey (24) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as their side crumbled to 9/145 after 45 overs.
Final score: Deniliquin 7/218 def Nathalia 145.
