Despite the finals experience between our players, it was still a tentative start to the game with just two goals separating the teams at the end of the first quarter.
Nerves were well and truly gone by the second quarter and the ‘Rovers of old’ settled into their own game.
They took full advantage of rebounds, intercepts and loose balls to convert to goals.
This created the scoreboard pressure needed, and the girls continued to extend their lead for the remainder of the game to take the win.
C-grade: Deni Rovers 21 defeated by Katunga 32.
The C-grade girls had a hard day on the court.
We knew it would be a tough gig coming up against a strong side – the only team to draw with us during the home and away season.
We were able to match Katunga until the third quarter, where they gained some momentum and took the lead.
We put in a good fight, with our defenders working overtime to convert much needed turnovers.
Unfortunately were unable to take home the win.
The girls are looking forward to bouncing back in next week’s game.
C-reserve: Deni Rovers 26 defeated by Katandra 33.
The C-reserve girls fought hard today in a tough game against Katandra.
Our defensive pressure across the court was strong, working hard to convert our turnovers into goals.
The girls adjusted well to some unexpected changes mid-game, showing how versatile we as a group.
Unfortunately we went down to a strong Katandra side in the end.
Under-17s: Deni Rovers 32 defeated by Katunga 43.
Going into the finals undefeated we were ready to take the court.
We matched Katunga goal-for-goal until three quarter time, which showed how strong our opponent was.
In an unbelievable game for our girls, our defenders worked tirelessly to keep us in the game.
The side kept their heads up and fought hard in the fourth quarter to level the scores. This took us into extra time, where the next 14 minutes were intense.
Unfortunately, Katunga wanted the win more than us on the day.
We are ready to come out firing next week.
Under-15s: Deni Rovers 15 defeated by Rennie 39.
A tough game in tough conditions, but what a great effort.
All the girls improved as the game went on.
We are very proud of their efforts for finishing strong. We’ll be ready for next week.
Under-13s: Deni Rovers 33 defeated Strathmerton 16.
It was a nervous and slow start to the game, in trying and wet conditions.
Bae Willis stood up and showed fight for the ball.
The girls slowly wore Strathmerton down with constant pressure and scoring at every opportunity.
They eventually ran away with a 33 to 16 victory.
