McLean Beach parkrun co-director Lynda Barclay said they are among some of the “keen runners” who participate in the local parkrun each week.
“Some of our young guns performed very well at the state cross country event held earlier in the year. Now it has been the time for some adults to shine,” Barlcay said.
“Several local parkrunners headed to Melbourne last weekend.
“Congratulations to George Selleck and Izzy Osborne who completed the full marathon, and to Aileen Hayes who completed the half marathon - a fantastic result.
“It is fabulous to see these high quality runners also still enjoy their Saturday morning parkruns.”
McLean Beach parkrun has gone from strength to strength since it’s launch in Deniliquin in 2021.
The parkrun phenomenon began 20 years ago in England, and is now held in over 2200 locations across 23 countries.
It spread to Australia in 2011 and Deniliquin got in on the action in 2021.
“There are now 500 parkrun locations in Australia, with over one million registered walkers, runners, and volunteers,” she said.
“At our local parkrun at McLean Beach, we can get up to 80 participants, which is a fantastic result for our small town.”
Held weekly on a Saturday, parkrun is free and sees participants complete a 5km open space course.
It is an opportunity for people to be active together, outdoors. They can walk, run, volunteer or just spectate.
Anyone interested in joining McLean Beach parkrun can register, for free, at www.parkrun.com.
Print out your barcode, or bring it on your phone, and be at the start of the Beach to Beach walk near McLean Beach by 7.50am on Saturdays.
