At the end of the first round of sets, Mitre 10 led by the smallest of margins, four sets to three, with the games 34 to 35.
Ric Bond and Sam Parkinson for Planners edged out Jacob Bulmer and Mick Farley, six to five.
Matching that, Mitre 10’s pairing of Jarrod Gray and Danyon Williams came home strongly in the tie breaker to defeat Jim Macdonald and John Sibree, six to five.
Miranda Rose and Emma Wettenhall also had a good battle.
Rose won a tight first set six to four, accompanied by Bec Stacey, but lost to Wettenhall in a tiebreaker in the spin set.
The second match pitted a dominant Deni Newsagency against Legal Eagles.
Of the seven sets in the first round, Deni Newsagency won the first six.
Bec Elstone and Mel Edwards won the sole set for the Eagles.
The second round proved more even with Riley Hamilton and Benjy Pisasale winning in a tie breaker against Mark Ritchie and Rich Larcombe.
There was, however, no denying Newsagency with Anthony Michael, Ben Chartres, James Gatacre, Jamie Howard, Steve Perry, John Nolan, Praveen Kotholla and Elyse Hood all two set winners at that stage.
Lightning then lit up the evening sky, forcing play to be abandoned.
Alas all the hard toil went unrewarded, as neither match was finished and all teams went home without a result.
