Yarrawonga 13.8.86 def Corowa Rutherglen 0.4.4
It was a fired up Under 12 team who made their way out onto the JC Lowe Oval on a bitterly cold Sunday morning.
After 4 straight losses, captains Looby and Small encouraged their teammates to switch on from the opening bounce. And that they did.
It didn't take long before the in-form Ryder Briffa kicked the first goal and the Pigeons were away. It was a muddy centre square but that didn't stop Charlie Carlye from great tap outs in the ruck and Charlie Bourke added two goals in quick succession followed with a great roving goal from Zeke Small were and the boys were leading by 28 points at quarter time.
The second term saw some fantastic tackling efforts by Yarrawonga's courageous Benji Wollington, Darby Bigger, Judd Long and Jedda Oughton, with a beautiful run and bounce on the wing by Harlem Doric.
However the highlight of the quarter was the two goals to Jimmy Robinson and when Roley Brear and Ryder Briffa also added two more majors to the score, the boys went into the main break up by 52 points.
The third quarter saw the Corowa boys come out hungry to improve the margin and they applied great pressure all around the ground.
The defence line really stood tall with hard work and determination by Parker Cowan, Jack Bruce and Dayne Bromley preventing Yarrawonga's hard earned lead from going south.
After some inspiring words from coach Wollington at three quarter time, the Yarrawonga boys ran out the last quarter with many examples of unselfish, team focus play.
The boys put the icing on the cake with goals being shared between Benji Wollington, Ed Mulquiney, Finn O'Brien, Charlie Bourke and Eamon Pickering, making it an 82-point win to the Under 12 boys.
Goals: C Bourke 3, J Robinson 2, R Briffa 2, R Brear, Z Small, B Wollington, E Mulquiney, F O'Brien, E Pickering.
Best: Ryder Briffa, Jimmy Robinson, Parker Cowan, Jedda Oughton and Harlem Doric.

Yarrawonga 1.2.8 def by Corowa Rutherglen 9.5.59.
It was the rumble on the river at the JC Lowe oval on Sunday that saw Yarrawonga play host to Corowa.
On a day that started out chilly and with a heavy track, conditions improved as the day went on.
Whilst the Corowa outfit once again had the better of the Pigeons Under 14s, the improvement seen in this group throughout the year is noticeable not only as individuals but more so as a team with some well constructed ball movement and team play that is exciting and impressive to watch.
The group was set the challenge to keep the contest up to Corowa and to work on some individual goals.
The boys hit the contest early and bought to the game exactly what their coaches asked of them, a willingness to take their direct opponent and never give up in the fight. They certainly did this and although being beaten by a much bigger opposition, they can be proud of the way they went about the task
Goals: Taj Parker.
