Another great day to play netball, except for the heat, with players again showing signs of what this team is capable of. It was great to see each player working on what we have been doing at training and it showed with precise movement down the court.
Awards - Best on Court - Kate Purtill; Coach’s Award - Milly op’t Hoog.
B-grade: Finley 42 def by 58 Congupna.
Finely had a strong first quarter with scores equal at quarter time, but were unable to sustain this throughout the game. There was strong momentum in parts of the second and third quarters, but it wasn’t enough. Players did well to adapt to several position changes throughout the game.
C-grade: Finley 44 def by Congupna 54.
It was a strong start with a one goal lead at quarter time. Congupna’s shooters were very accurate and that saw the them lead at half-time by five goals. The heat played a big factor and the Cats couldn’t get the deficit back in the second half. More training as a team in the coming weeks will see the team improve as the season goes on.
Awards: Best on Court - Sasha Wood; Coach’s Award - Judy Plattfuss.
C-Reserve: Finley 19 def by Congupna 47.
A new looking C-Reserve side matched up well with Congupna, but struggled with the heat and numerous positional changes to help players cope. Plenty of work is required over the next week at training.
Awards: Mandy Fleming, Karen Donkin.
Under-17s: Finley 51 def Congupna 32.
The side started strong, creating a steady lead in the first quarter. The girls worked with various combinations and adapted well to each change. Shooters were incredibly accurate, the defence end applied unmatched pressure and the mid-courters remained steadfast for four quarters. It was a fantastic win overall.
Awards: Matilda Burton, Addison Clarke.
Under-13s: Finley 23 def Congupna 13.
A much better game this week. The girls worked hard as a team and made improvements in the areas they worked on at training. The club is excited for the coming weeks to see the strides these girls will make. They enjoyed getting a win on the board.
Under-15s: Finley 33 def Congupna 21.
The Cats took the lead early, and although Congupna fought back in the second quarter, the Finley team were able to maintain a comfortable lead. Congupna's determination had players on alert in the second half. The whole team played well together, supporting one another and managing the fatigue brought on by the hotter than normal weather. It was a great first win for the season.
Awards: Abbey Tanner, Amber Lawlor.
Under 11s: Not scored.
Our young 11s side showed up to the game with determination and definitely improvement over last week, becoming a stronger side weekly. They displayed excellent teamwork and did not drop their heads against a strong Congupna side.
Awards: Bailey Kennedy, Scarlett Pyle.
