The Murray Bombers on-baller was adjudged best-on-ground in his sides’ championship triumph, while also picking up player of the finals series.
O’Brien chipped in a goal for Echuca and was a constant force for his side around the ball, snagging a number of marks inside 50 in the Murray Bombers late charge.
Humble in victory, O’Brien was surprised to have been given the honour.
“I didn’t think I deserved either of them,” he said.
“It’s good to have but the other one’s (the premiership) is the most important medal.”
O’Brien split his season between the reserves and senior side, eventually suiting up in the twos for the finals series.
“It’s the beauty of a good football club,” he said.
“You get dropped from the seniors, you’ve still got the opportunity to play in a grand final because the reserves are in it.”
A homegrown talent, O’Brien expressed his love for the Echuca Football Netball Club and the city he has lived in his entire life.
“It’s awesome, it’s a great place to be around,” he said.
“It’s been my home since I was born. I grew up around the club, I don’t really know anything else.”
