A testament to his commitment to the club on and off the field, Rovers president John Glowrey said Hope has played a number of integral positions across his 300 club games.
“It’s great to see Hopey get his 300 club games for Rovers,” Glowrey said.
“Hopey has remained loyal to Rovers, notwithstanding many opportunities to play elsewhere, and he has played the majority of his 300 in first grade, holding down key positions.
“Hopey is certainly one of Rovers’ favourite sons and a leader of our club.
“He becomes one of only 14 players across football and netball who have reached the milestone at our club.”
Hope said although his football career started from “humble beginnings”, his love of the game has spurred him on.
“I think you have to really enjoy it to get to 300 games.
“I never thought I would play 300. I only started playing because a few mates convinced me to come and play when I was 14.”
Kicking two goals in the Deni Rovers’ 80-point win over Berrigan on Saturday, Hope said the milestone game was just another game.
But it was made meaningful by those who have supported him along the way.
He said it was significant to reach the milestone playing under coach Alex Hay, as he has been a part of his journey from the start.
“Being coached by someone that you played your first game with in 2006 is unreal,” he said.
One part that stands out for Hope, is having played with multiple generations of local families.
“I’ve now been around long enough that I’m playing with the sons of guys that I started playing with,” he said.
