The Victorian Government stream awards $20 million to 26 regional infrastructure projects throughout the state to improve club amenities, with many local beneficiaries stemming from the grants scheme.
Greater Shepparton City Council has been handed $254,100 for the Tatura Park Western Oval lighting upgrade project.
Tatura Football Netball Club is set to benefit significantly from the funding, with improvements to begin on the existing towers, which are old and expensive to run.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes welcomed the news with open arms.
“This funding is ensuring Tatura sporting facilities are world class — meaning everyone in the community can enjoy the sports they love for years to come,” she said.
Further south, Mitchell Shire Council raked in $1 million to fund the Seymour Tennis Centre Complex courts and lighting upgrade project.
The Seymour tennis complex is in line for a glow up, with a new synthetic grass surface to be laid on four synthetic courts along with club competition-standard 350 lux LED lighting in line to be installed.
Meanwhile, Strathbogie Shire Council and the female athletes within its boundaries have also benefited from the funding stream.
A grant has been awarded to establish a long-overdue female-friendly change room facility at Longwood Recreation Reserve so that its many users can have their own privacy.
Campaspe Shire Council has received money from the fund’s first round for accessibility upgrades to Kyabram Recreation Reserve’s Wilf Cox Facility.
And in the Moira Shire, the Waaia hard court redevelopment project has also landed a windfall through the grant.
Community Sport Minister Ros Spence was glad to see the funding reach all corners of regional Victoria, including the Goulburn Valley.
“The new Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is about making sure all Victorians – regardless of their age, gender or ability – have access to high quality sport and recreation facilities no matter where they live,” she said.
