The women’s winter pennant team secured the flag, defeating Jerilderie at Finley in the final.
Jerilderie were undefeated going into the final, so it was an excellent effort by the Deniliquin ladies.
The team was captained by Pauline Davis and included Jenny Adamson, Leanne Mulham, Pauline Sherwin, Prue Grant, Yvonne Holmes, Ann Bull and Denise Hunter.
Our ladies will be to the fore again this Sunday when they contest the Women’s Scramble, which is four-person ambrose with 10.30am assembly for 11am shotgun start.
There has been plenty of golf over the past week, starting with versus par on Thursday.
Winner was Jan Hussey who finished square, from runner-up Prue Chalmers on -1.
In Saturday’s stableford event the A-grade winner was Barry Barlow who scored 36 points to win on countback to Leigh Chappell.
B-grade winner was Brad Haines 37 from runner-up Glen Warren 33, and C-grade Nick Metcalfe 36 from runner-up Leanne Mulham 35.
The Nisbet Mixed Fourball Knockout opening round was played on Sunday, with winners Troy Grant and Fiona Milward who scored 43 points to win on countback to Graeme and Marg Rothwell.
On Wednesday the A-grade winner was Gary Stephens with an impressive 43 points, from Des Ramsey on 41, and in B-grade the winner was Brian Dixon who scored 35 points from runner-up Michael Everett 34.
It continues to be a busy time on the golf course, with the coming week being no exception.
Tomorrow is fourball best ball, then it’s the Women’s Scramble on Sunday.
Next week we have a 9-hole stroke event on Tuesday with 9.30am shotgun start, stableford on Wednesday, stroke and ladies medal on Thursday, then stroke and the men’s medal on Saturday.
Sunday of next weekend is the 2024 Deniliquin Men’s Open, which will feature scratch and handicap, plus medley events.
