Free Golf Friday (from 2pm) follows the outstanding success of last week’s par three ambrose competition, which drew a big field of experienced golfers, as well as plenty with less experience.
They enjoyed the Friday evening competition and later the hospitality in the clubhouse where there were meals and also music.
Judging by its success, there seems no doubt this format will be repeated.
Today we see the start of ‘Free Golf Friday’, which will continue until Friday, March 22.
From 2pm each Friday across this period social golf will be free, with no membership required.
Clubs, push buggies and carts will be available at member rates, with tees and golf balls supplied.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to ‘give golf a go’. (NB: Fees will still apply to players in the Sixers competition if they are submitting a card.)
Last Thursday was a stableford event, won by Sarah Aitken with 41 points from runner-up Leigh Chappell 34.
Saturday was also stableford, won in A-grade by Matt Thomas with an excellent sub-par round of 39 points, from runner-up Ben Irwin 38.
B-grade winner was John Wacheke with 41 points from runner-up Felicity McCalman 38, and C-grade winner was Robin Hood 40 points, from runner-up Susan Butcher 36.
On Wednesday 38 points was a winning score.
A-grade winner with 38 was Brian Jennings on countback to Josh Hunt, and B-grade winner Geoff Bracken also had 38, on countback to Graeme Rothwell.
Tomorrow we have a fourball aggregate, followed during the week by nine holes stableford on Tuesday, then stableford Wednesday, Thursday and next Saturday.
The next major event is the Autumn Classic, on March 9 and 10.
Stay tuned for more details on this fourball best ball tournament.
Raffles will be back to their normal time of 7pm tonight, with tickets available from 6pm.
Why not enjoy a social game as part of Free Golf Friday, then enjoy some refreshments, a meal and perhaps win a prize in the raffle?
