Division 1 remains in their recent form slump after being comprehensively beaten by Rochester, 39 shots to 76.
Stuart Treble’s side was even at the halfway mark before suddenly falling behind by 12 shots, and then picked up seven shots on the final three ends in going down 16-21.
Simon Chisholm’s rink was all square with three ends to play but conceded five shots thereafter to also suffer a 16-21 defeat. The final group skipped by Shane Laing had a dirty day at the office when they were thumped, 7-34.
Division 2 tried hard against Rochester, but couldn’t quite do enough to prevent the 58-65 defeat. Chris Taylor, Ella Hipworth, David Hessel and Rob Morris led by six with four ends to play and then trailed by two after two more ends, before claiming two on the final two ends to salvage a 19-all draw.
Craig Hillier called the shots for Terry Boyer, Andrew Holloway and Bruce Clancy as they charged out of the blocks with a six on the opening end on their way to a 20-2 lead after nine ends. They may have ‘gone the early crow’ from there however, as Rochester pegged them back appreciably, before the Deniliquin crew steadied late to run out comfortable winners, 26 shots to 18.
Unfortunately Peter Todd’s team was soundly beaten 13 shots to 28, resulting in the overall seven shot deficit.
Division 3 were soundly beaten by Mathoura, 43 shots to 60, with Mike Donohue’s rink suffering an 11-21 defeat, and Tom Todd’s side beaten 10-25. The final combination of Keith Hay, Tyler Hillier, John Murray and Craig Murray (skip) was a little slowly away, but a six on the third end got them going on their way to a very solid victory, 22-14.
Division 5 claimed a hard-fought win over Echuca, 46 shots to 40, and in doing so consolidated their position at the top of the ladder. Col Knuckey’s crew including Winnie Pattinson, Bill Young and Tony King got home narrowly 20-17, while Mick Atley, Matt Crothers, Lee Pattinson and Lloyd Ritchie (skip) also claimed a three shot victory, 26-23.
