Twenty-two teams contested three games of 12 ends on Saturday, with a further two games on Sunday to decide who would advance to the semi-finals and final.
Both played out over only six ends.
After a couple of big upsets in the later games, there were four teams who had won four games left to battle it out.
In the first of the semi-finals, the team from Tallygaroopna - skip Scott Adams, Joe Lia, Gary Murphy and Greg Rowan was pitted against the Mathoura combination of Ivan Hicks (skip), David and Beryl Murphy and Gail Kerr.
This game couldn’t have been any closer.
The score was nine-all after the required six ends, with an extra end required before Tallygaroopna claimed victory to go through to the grand final.
The other semi-final saw the clash of two local teams when Shane Laing (s), Mark Tasker, Peter Chadderton and Bryan Kemnitz opposed David Hessel (s), John Flisher, Lindsay Franklin and Graham Nisbet.
Laing’s side only made the play-offs after a close victory on the final end of their last preliminary match.
Clearly they saved their very best for Sunday afternoon, when they outplayed the Hessel combination and then recorded another resounding victory in the final against Tallygaroopna.
Given the number of visiting teams, it was fairly unusual to see three local sides able to advance to the last four.
After COVID-interrupted seasons the last couple of years, the club is grateful for the great support from teams from near and far.
It is again indebted to the sterling organisation of tournament director, Mark Law.
