Leigh Chappell and Toby Rae had 47 points to score a three-shot victory from runners-up Norm Purtill and Nick Metcalfe on countback to third placegetters John Wacheke and Joseph Maina. Another three pairs also recorded 44 points.
On Sunday, the Diggers’ Charity Golf Day was played in superb conditions.
Winners were Brian ‘Billy’ Bourke, Mandy Phyland, Chris Priest and Geoff McCallum, from runners-up Graeme Willoughby, Carole Hardman, Pauline Davis and Chris Mitsch.
On Wednesday, there was again a good field with three grades.
A-grade winner was Barry Barlow 38 points, from runner-up Kerran Leetham 35; B-grade Ron ‘Moot’ Turner 35 from runner-up George Maddison 34, and C-grade Fiona Milward 36 from runner-up Jane Glowrey 31.
The busy time on course continues, with lots of golf in the coming weeks.
Yesterday, the ladies played the first round of their championships.
Those who were unable to play yesterday can play their first championship round tomorrow.
The second round will also be optional days: next Thursday, May 9 and Saturday, May 11. The final round will be on Thursday, May 16.

This Saturday is a stroke event and will also be the men’s monthly medal. Tuesday is 9 holes stroke, and Wednesday is the usual Stableford.
Next Friday, May 10, is the annual Corporate Golf Day featuring guest speaker Simon O’Donnell.
The next charity day will be supporting Motor Neuron Disease on Sunday, June 2.
The cost is $200 per team, which includes an all-day barbecue, a cheese platter after golf, auctions, an MND beanie and a mystery draw for a $200 prize.
