When the Bannockburn Bowls Club brought three teams to play in the local Premier Fours tournament last August, and featured most prominently in the social activities after, the seed was sown for the Deniliquin Bowling Club to return the favour by supporting one of that club’s fixtures.

Subsequently, and due in no small way to the persuasive powers of the indomitable Kevin Keane, four teams from Deniliquin made the trip to compete in a fours competition (four games of eight ends) last Wednesday.
The Deniliquin crew managed to claim some of the spoils too, with Steve O’Brien, Steve King, Tony Danckert and Ken ‘Titch’ Salter finishing with the runner’s-up money.
I’m told that the last player mentioned had a little trouble with his range at times which prompted his teammates to want to change his nickname to ‘Ditch’. Just saying.
I’m sure there will be more ongoing reciprocal support for both clubs in the future.

The pennant results from Saturday saw only one of the Deniliquin Bowling Club teams claim victory.
Division 1 battled gallantly against the strong Moama outfit, but finally went down 70 shots to 56.
Jamie Shields’ rink lost by a solitary shot, while Paul Snare and Shane Laing lost by six and seven shots respectively.
Division 2 hosted Deniliquin RSL, only to succumb 69 shots to 46.
Stuart Treble’s rink won 22-19, but Bryan Kemnitz lost by 10 and Glenn Thomson’s side was thumped 25 shots to 9.
Division 3 travelled to Mathoura and managed to sneak home with the spoils 63 shots to 58.
Mark Law’s mob failed by four shots, but Keith Hay won by five and Lee Pattinson’s side prevailed by four shots, which was just enough to get the visitors over the line.
Division 5 ventured to Ky Valley and suffered a 44-31 defeat.
Craig Lowe’s team got off to a flying start and enjoyed a comfortable lead at the halfway mark, but it all went rapidly downhill from there.
They were eventually beaten 27 shots to 13, while Harry Lea’s rink prevailed by the barest of margins.

The Clear Lifestyle Support Jackpot Pairs crew welcomed two visitors from Echuca Bowling Club on Wednesday, Leica Rooney and Trevor McColl.
The latter quickly acclimatised to the local surroundings.
McColl and Andrew Holloway were the only three game winners with plus 43 shots.
Then to rub it in further to the locals, Trevor proceeded to draw his own name for an opportunity at the $1400 jackpot.
He had used all his good fortune for the day however, which means there will be $1450 up for grabs after play tomorrow.
