When Barooga took on Numurkah for round eight of the Murray Netball League no-one could have predicted what a tough slog the game would become.
Both sides fought hard enough to prevent a breakthrough by their opponent, and the game ended with a 32-32 tie.
Hawks’ coach Jacqui Douglas said she was pleased with how her girls performed.
“It was a pretty intense match,” she said.
“It showcased significant improvement that the team has made over the season.”
Douglas praised her defenders, calling them her best players of the match.
“Our two defenders, Kiera Mathers and Bec Jones, worked well together,” she said.
In other netball news, it was a great round nine for Strathmerton in the Picola and District 2024 netball tournament.
Strathmerton had no trouble against Tungamah, winning 45-22 on its home turf.
Meanwhile, Katamatite’s netballers had a good round, playing Yarroweyah on its home turf and finishing the game with an impressive 109-8.
Victoria’s Katandra dominated NSW’s Jerilderie, securing a decisive 64-33 victory.
Across the river, Tocumwal secured a 36-27 victory against Mathoura, while Berrigan edged out Blighty 40-34.
Waaia triumphed at home against Katunga, winning 41-36.
Rennie outperformed Picola on its home turf, winning 40-24.
