A group of more than 30 students from Deniliquin High School travelled to compete at the Zone Athletics carnival at the Finley Recreation Reserve last Tuesday, June 18.

The students competed against students from other high schools in the area, including Finley High School and Barham High School.
Some of the standout results included those of students Elka Connolly and Xander Strong.
Elka finished first in the 14-year girls’ 200m final with a time of 31.74 and first in the 14-year girls’ 800m final with a time of 3:05.74.
Her performance was not limited to the track events, finishing third in the 14-year girls’ high jump final with a final height of 1.33m.
Another podium result for Deniliquin High School saw Xander Strong place second in the 14-year boys’ 800m final with a time of 2:57.71.
The school and Deniliquin High School external sports co-ordinator Tom Edwards congratulated all the students who participated in the Zone Carnival on Tuesday.
A date for the regional carnival, the next level of competition, is yet to be confirmed.
Xander Strong finished second in the 14-years Boys 800m final.
Elka Connolly won both the 14-years Girls 200m and 800m.
