YMGCR Bowls
Well now that pennant season is finished it feels that the bowlers now go into hibernation. Bowlers will now head off to all directions for the winter but a few will remain and get behind the social bowls.

Wednesday social bowls had 28 players. There were two 2 game winners and with a score of +13, Snodger Lowrie and A Fahy just got over the line because Bill Butterworth and ‘Shagga’ Baxter had a +12.
Bill must of had a blinder because Shagga hasn't put down too many good bowls all year (if he concentrated more on bowls than cutting up wood for his fire...the boy has got some raw talent)
Friday bowls was washed out but don't forget you can get a game on Good Friday. Ring Marie Morffew or Viki Withers
Over the weekend ‘Golden Child’ Mick Vaughan and Stuart McNeill who have both had a great start to their YMGCR career by getting the A1 flag, also represented the O&M region side.
Both had great weekends with the side winning the same amount as the winners but having a worst percentage to finish a fantastic second in their section.
YMGCRs third member of the squad was Garry Sanders who has been a long time O&M representive. Garry had an outstanding series putting his team in a strong position. This was a great result for the O&M mens team .
The women O&M side who were the defending champions couldn't get going. Anne Miles rink of Sharon Warfe, Laureen Smith and Clarie Sanders had a good series but had to battle hard for results. Sue Middleton was in Kylie Whitehead rink and they also had the same problem.
Yarrawonga Bowls
The Prestigious Edinburgh Shield was held last Saturday and Sunday and Yarrawonga Bowls were lucky enough to have good weather on their side.
It was a huge weekend with 105 bowlers from various Sub Branches out of Metropolitan Melbourne participating at the local club.
Congratulations to the winners of the day, the Queenscliff/Port Lonsdale team winning all 5 games.
It was a great success and the club members did a wonderful job supplying lunch for 105 people and more under the guidance of Kay (little pocket rocket).
Having so many members willing to help out is what makes these days the success that they are.
The club would like to thank Lauren and Dean Holgate from Mulwala Bakery for their much appreciated donation. Some idea of the help from the bowls own members were; the donation of salads and items for the trading table and those manning it. Helpers for the catering and everything associated with it, cooking the BBQ, running the bar, selling raffle tickets and those involved in the running of the bowls.
The club has had a facelift leading up to the Edinburg Shield and Easter Tournament, and it’s really looking good. Thanks also to the small band of helpers that came to the Working Bee to do some clean up jobs beforehand.
The 4 day Easter Tournament starts on Good Friday and the club have had a sheet up for those willing to help out/make a salad/slice etc.
Another big weekend so the club will need all the help they can get.
Also need bowlers to be emergencies to fill in if needed.
The Easter raffle/great prizes; time is running out so don’t forget to get those raffle tickets in, more available if needed.
The Club Open Triples Final was played last week between Ian Wood’s and Mick Reilly’s teams.
It was a great game that had to go to an extra end to get a result. Ian’s team were 6 down with 5 ends to go, they picked up a few good ends and ended up level on the last.
On the extra end, Kay led with a great shot leaving very little room between the jack and the bowl. Bill retaliated with a beautiful bowl to nestle into the small gap.
Mick’s team drew another to make it 2 and the others could only cut it back to 1 down giving Mick’s team the win by 1 shot.
Congratulations to Mick Reilly, John Ellis and Bill Houghton on being Open Club Triples Champions for this season and well done to Ian Woods, Ted Edwards and Kay Ross on being the Runners Up.
On Monday, April 25, Anzac Day, the club will be having the annual visit from the Tatts Club group, approximately 40 people.
This is always a great sociable bowling day with the rinks being mixed with the tatts club members and our own.
We would love to see plenty of our members come and join in so they are not just playing against their own group; there is a sheet up for names of those wishing to play.
