While the conditions were warm, the intensity of the heat was kept at bay with the sun behind clouds for much of the evening.
Club member Graeme McKindlay said carrying a little extra from Christmas dinner definitely posed a challenge for some, and may have been a contributing factor to a smaller number of participants.
“Numbers of participants have been down this year to date, particularly in the younger age group, possibly due to the cooler weather in November when we started.
“We have also been at the pool rather than our usual McLean Beach start with river swim and river track run.
“During December, pre-school holidays, we have had up to 20 participants with several travelling from Finley each week.
“Everyone is just trying to improve their time week to week. Others participate just to keep mobile.
“As is evident from the times, there is a wide range of abilities catered for.
“Participants can choose what length of any leg they wish to complete - for example they can choose to swim 100m or 300m.
“A move back to the river and shaded run would be welcome. Unfortunately that will be a few weeks away, if at all possible this season (because of the floods).”
Sam McKindlay recorded the best time on Tuesday, completing the course in 35 minutes and 32 seconds.
His partner Johanna Pham recorded top times in all three legs, finishing only 20 seconds slower in the run.
Sam was a member of the club when it started in 2008.
Since leaving Deniliquin he has returned each Christmas for his one triathlon a year.
Pham has returned with him for the last three years.
There’s no holiday break for the Deni Triathlon and Canoe Club, who will meet again for training on Tuesday.
Participants are asked to meet at the Deniliquin Swim Centre at 5.30pm, for a 5.45pm start.
The weekly triathlons continue until the end of March. Membership is only $20.
