A man who was caught driving without a licence has been fined $750.
James Anthony Fitzgerald, 46, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Echuca Magistrates’ Court to driving unlicensed.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Abdul Fakhouri told the court Fitzgerald was caught driving without a licence when he was stopped by police on High St, Rushworth at 12.12am on July 1 last year.
His licence was disqualified on September 23, 2019 in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court for a drink driving offence, Sen Constable Fakhouri said.
When interviewed by police, Fitzgerald said his reason for driving unlicensed was because his mother had passed away and he needed to clear out her house.
Representing himself in court, Fitzgerald said the rest of his family lived interstate, which was why he had to be the one to pack up her personal items.
The court was told he had one relevant prior conviction from March 2019.
Fitzgerald was fined $750 and his licence was disqualified for a further 30 days.
