A vehicle that was crashed and abandoned in Kialla overnight on Friday was set alight on Saturday night, causing a potential bushfire risk close to homes.

Shepparton police believe the red Ford AU Falcon was not stolen; however, the driver and occupants fled the scene after crashing the vehicle past the bridge that joins Shepparton to Kialla, near the Prowash car wash on the Goulburn Valley Hwy.
The AU Falcon was crashed on the Kialla side of the bridge connecting Shepparton to Kialla on Wyndham St and the Goulburn Valley Hwy.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said FRV responded to calls to 000 at 8.36pm on Saturday, when callers reported seeing a car in flames on the side of the road.
FRV crews arrived within seven minutes, quickly extinguishing the fire and making the scene safe before handing it over to police.
The fire spread to the surrounding scrub.
