He states the Shepparton Stage 3 rail project would be further along if the region had independent MPs, or was ‘marginal’. But the majority of funding for the project, $320 million, came from the federal coalition government in 2021, when Damian Drum was the Nationals MP on a margin of over 15 per cent.

The delays to the project are due to the incompetence of the state Labor government, of which Meharry seems to ignore. So is he, like a number of other ‘independent supporters’, a Labor supporter hiding behind aspiring orange MPs?
