With several regular players unavailable, and no under-12s match this week, three members of the u12s team filled in – and made a fantastic impact with their all-round cricket skills.
The Rhinos won the toss and elected to bat.
Tom Marshall and Henry Pisasale got the innings going early with a six to Tom in the second over and a boundary to Henry off his first ball.
Hunter Campbell joined in with a boundary off his first ball and captain Daniel Burn played another wonderful innings, hitting five sixes and three boundaries in his blistering innings of 43 before being caught on the boundary.
Red Ricon joined him at the crease and played a great support role, hitting two of his own sixes and a boundary before being run out on 22 runs.
Will Crossley, James Armytage and Edward Bliss all contributed with the bat, James and Edward scoring boundaries late in the innings.
The big batting improver of the day was George Marshall who defended his wicket well and remained two not out at the end of the innings.
A major highlight of Cobram’s fielding innings was Deniliquin fill-in George Pisasale (who is only seven years old) who fielded and bowled beautifully, performing well beyond his years.
He had Cobram’s most economical bowling figures after two overs of 0/3.
The Rhinos ended their innings after 20 overs on 8/123.
Cobram started its run chase well with Sebastian Pate and Ben Padman settling at the crease and both retiring not out before returning to the crease later in the innings.
Sebastian was Cobram’s not out batter at the end of the innings, on 23 runs from 28 balls.
Disciplined bowling from Henry Pisasale, Daniel Burn, Hunter Campbell and Red Ricon contained Barooga’s scoring.
George Marshall and Edward Bliss both claimed two wickets each and the other wickets were shared between Jacob Holschier and Tom Marshall (who were both also instrumental in two run outs).
Again, George Pisasale provided the match’s major highlight when he went out to bat for Cobram, stoically scoring eight runs.
A full-paced ball hit George on the chest late in the game, however he continued to bat injured. Cobram were all out for 78 runs.
George Marshall’s improved batting and bowling performances earned him the day’s Wired Entertainment coach’s award.
The boys travel to Finley High School this Friday evening to play from 5pm.
