Council entered its ‘Three Bin Blitz’ program in the award category’s Division A section.
It won this section, and was also named overall winner.
It has seen council transform waste management with a dynamic leap from single-bin to an industry leading three-bin kerbside collection system.
“By working with a proficient contractor, we’ve supercharged efficiency and customer service outcomes, while landfill gate fees have reinforced sustainable habits,” a council spokesperson said.
“An internal overhaul has sharpened our focus on resource recovery, aligning efforts towards greener, smarter waste management.
“This strategic, multi-pronged approach has catapulted the region to the forefront of local government resources recovery.”
Edward River was one of five finalists in the award category, up against some large city councils.
The other finalists were Blacktown City Council, City of Canada Bay, Eurobodalla Shire Council and Inner West Council.
“This is great recognition of all the hard work that has gone into the three bins project over the last 18 months - by both council teams and our community,” council said.
The Excellence in the Environment Awards are held annually and aim to recognise outstanding achievements by NSW local government organisations in managing and protecting the environment.
Attending the awards ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday were council’s director infrastructure Mark Dalzell and three bins project manager Anna Kelly.
