Travelling exhibit launches in Deni

An exhibition about the endangered Plains Wanderer bird was met with an enthusiastic reception on Friday evening.The exhibition launched at the Peppin Heritage Centre was organised by South West Arts in partnership with Murray Local Land Services.The art is designed to raise awareness about the bird’s plight, and the power of landholders to keep the bird’s population alive.About 50 people attended the launch, with nibbles and drinks on offer, including a locally made cordial and COVID safe boxes of goodies.Many local artists who created colourful works of art about the Plains Wanderer also attended.Deniliquin artist, Ian Campbell, whose work ‘What is my future?’ is a feature of the exhibit, was impressed with the turn out.‘‘It’s in the hands of locals to save the Plains Wanderer.‘‘We need to do what we can to protect their habitat,’’ he said. The exhibition will tour the Murray region, visiting hotspots where the Plains Wanderer’s population thrives, including Moama, Hillston and Barooga.
