The three bin system - red for general waste, yellow for recycling and green for food organics and green waste - officially starts on Monday.
The service, delivered under a new contract, is a significant change for the Deniliquin community and will help to extend the lifespan of the current landfill.
It has required Edward River Council to invest in new collections trucks, which were inspected by Mayor Peta Betts this week ahead of the program starting.
“I’m impressed by the advanced technology they feature that is expected to significantly improve customer service and allow for easy monitoring of bin contamination,” she said.
Residents are encouraged to start using their new bins immediately.
From Monday onwards, only the new black-bodied bins will be emptied, starting with the green and red bins.
Residents are permitted to keep their old green bins for personal use, or to give to others who wish to use them, but are reminded these will not be collected kerbside.
Those who do not wish to keep them are instructed to leave them upside down on the nature strip so they can be removed by the contractor and recycled.
Materials explaining the system and collection dates should have been delivered to your home or business along with your new bins.
If you have any questions, Anna Kelly from council's Green Team will be available at the Edward River Library in Deniliquin from 10am to noon on Tuesdays to provide assistance and information.
