Temporary police station taking shape

He assured the community the station would feature all the usual services that rural towns received.

“The building will have all the attributes of a permanent facility,” he said.

“I was out there last week and it looks terrific. While they’re temporary, the interim portables will be able to provide the community with a critical touch-point for the next 18 months to two years.”

The crane was carrying one of the units to make a room facing Moore St.

The new permanent building is expected to be completed within the next 18 months.

Once the purpose-built long-term building is fully constructed, it will service the town for decades.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for the community to have a police station after last year’s devastating floods,” Insp Sampson said.

“The station is a perfect opportunity for the community members to have a contact point in Rochester.”
