It’s a day when some people who don’t usually bet or gamble throughout the year place their hard earned money on a particular horse in the hope that it could make them rich.
As well as horse racing, there are so many other areas where people are prepared to ‘take a gamble’ in the hope of winning something.
This type of gambling is not a sure thing. You cannot be certain that you will gain any lasting benefit.
You may feel lucky when you do have a win but how much have you invested in the past and lost it all?
For each person who wins, there are so many others who have lost. Somebody has to pay the price in order that others might prosper.
Throughout our lives we take a chance, or gamble on a variety of things.
Choices we make may be influenced by what we think we can achieve and, in some cases, lead to disappointment.
We may have heard the saying ‘the only certainties in life are death and taxes’. Both of these are not promising outcomes.
However, if you have chosen the life which leads to eternity with your Creator, you are on a sure winner.
Believing in the Son of God and that He came to save us from uncertainty is not a gamble, it’s a sure thing.
Do you believe that when we die there is nothing more? Do you wonder if you are going to Heaven or Hell? Do you believe that we have Creator God who wants us to be with him in eternity?
Some people say it’s a load of rubbish, that there is nothing after death. What if there is?
Are you willing to take a gamble on that belief, or choose to put your trust in a Saviour?
What have you got to lose? If there is no after life then it won’t matter. But what if there is and you haven’t secured your future?
God provided a way for us to secure our future. We don’t have to gamble with our eternity.
Someone has paid the price, all we need to do is believe (and acknowledge) that the Son of God has saved us.
My tip is on the white horse!
In Revelation (last book in the bible) it says “I saw heaven open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider was called Faithful and True”.
This is a vision of Jesus returning as a warrior, the white horse symbolising victory. Conquering the war between God and evil.
