There are also plans to host the associated Halloween family fun day too, but MHAG will need support from the community to make this happen.
The annual family-friendly event - which has the catch-cry of ‘Mental health; It’s not as scary as you think’ event - saw more than 400 kids and parents take to the streets in 2023.
The main messaging around this event follows the Mental Health Month theme for all of Australia this year, which is ‘Let’s talk about it’.
It aims to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations about mental health and wellbeing and remind people that it is okay to ask for help.
The event includes a safe trick or treat walk along the central business district, with businesses and shops handing out treats and decorating their shops.
MHAG member Lourene Liebenberg said the group has, in the past, been successful in obtaining small grants to host a free event for the community.
She said as it has become an annual event, it no longer fits the criteria for many small grants.
“Whilst we are committed to put this event on, and have already started organising it, we would be incredibly appreciative of financial support from the community and businesses to truly make this an event for the community by the community,” Mrs Liebenberg said.
“As a registered mental health charity for our local community, we have been very mindful of not putting a burden on our community by asking for donations.
“We tick along and make things happen, but this event could benefit from additional financial and community support.
“All money donated to us is spent locally, and for the benefit of our community.”
Sponsorships and donations can be made in different ways, and are tax deductible.
Depending on the level of sponsorship, recognition will be given publicly by having logos on posters, social media, printed media and recognised on the Deni MHAG website as well.
Deni MHAG is also looking for community volunteers for the event, to assist with safe crossings, directing families along the route and handing out treats.
Deni MHAG is a community-led volunteer group and a registered charity, with the aim of promoting mental health and wellbeing and pathways to help in Deni and surrounds.
