As part of the company’s Purpose Week from October 10 to 24, it created a number of hampers to be distributed through Deniliquin Meals on Wheels.
Purpose Week is an opportunity for the SunRice employees around the world to celebrate their unique culture and the launch of their refreshed purpose, vision, mission, values and behaviours.
A series of events were held across SunRice sites, which enabled people to experience their purpose - “To make a difference to places and lives everywhere through nourishing and delicious products” - and to participate in an activity to support a local community organisation.
Deniliquin-based SunRice and Australian Grain Storage team members chose to align themselves with an important charity organisation which helps feed the community.
“They care deeply for the people and places that care for us and were delighted to support Meals on Wheels, an organisation that is aligned with our community values,” SunRice Group corporate communications manager Courtney Stanley said.
“The SunRice Group is proud to be an integral part of the Deniliquin community and our team members really valued the opportunity to give back by making hampers.”
The first meeting of Deniliquin Meals on Wheels was held February 27, 1967.
The first meal was cooked on July 17, 1967.
Two volunteers per day would deliver between six and eight meals in one car.
It soon grew to 60 meals a day, with six volunteers per day in three cars.
Meals on Wheels coordinator Ingrid Greve said the service now has more than 50 volunteers delivering wonderful meals to the community.
“The service would not be possible without the wonderful volunteers and the dedication of the committee,” she said.
“We are very grateful for the hampers donated by SunRice Group, and we are pleased to distribute them to the Meals on Wheels recipients”.
