Fans of the flying fox bats which have been making themselves at home in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens will be pleased to know that some have decided to stick around.

A growing number of the mammals have been taking up residence in the tree in the gardens over recent months.
The bats tend to favour the large palm trees, most of which happen to tower over the picnic tables installed in the gardens.
In the interests of public hygiene, Edward River Council attempted to intervene and encourage the colony to migrate elsewhere by using smoke.
“This process has been advised by Local Land Services as the least harmful method to move the bats on.”
The smoking took place on Monday.
And while a number of the bats did disperse, a few have decided to stick around.
Time will tell if something more will need to be done.
Hay pipe bomb, drug arrest
A man has been charged for alleged possession of homemade pipe bombs near Hay.
About 12.30pm Monday, Murrumbidgee Police District stopped a vehicle on the Sturt Highway for random breath testing.
During a search of the car, police allegedly located cannabis leaf, methylamphetamine, a large knife and two explosive devices believed to be homemade pipe bombs.
Police closed Sturt Highway and an exclusion zone was established in both directions for safety reasons.
The Rescue Bomb Disposal Unit were called to the scene and confirmed the devices were explosives before they were dismantled.
Two men, aged 33 and 30, were arrested and taken to Hay Police Station while police established an investigation.
The 33 year-old man was charged with two counts of possess explosive in public place, two counts of possess prohibited drug and custody of knife in public place.
The 30 year-old man was released without charge pending further investigations.
Spring forward for Daylight Saving
The warmer months are approaching, which means its time to alter time so we can enjoy more sunny days and the Aussie way of life.
Daylight Saving is due to begin at 2am Sunday.
For those who forget which way to turn the clock dial, remember the term ‘spring forward for spring’.
Those of us in the Deni region have a handy little reminder every year that Daylight Saving is coming, because it most often falls on the same weekend as the Deni Ute Muster.
Daylight Saving will end on Sunday, April 6 next year.
Check your smoke alarms
Daylight Saving is also used by fire authorities as the perfect reminder to test your fire safety devices at home and work.
They say you should check your smoke alarm batteries at the start and end of Daylight Saving.
The Bush Fire Danger Period has now also officially started in the Mid Murray Rural Fire Service zone, which incorporates Deniliquin and district.
It got under way on Tuesday, and with it are stricter rules about the use of fire.
Landholders are reminded that permits are required before any burning off.
Rural landholders need to apply through the RFS, while those in town need to apply to their local council and local NSW Fire + Rescue brigade.
Even with a permit, you must advise fire authorities and your neighbours when you plan to burn. Go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify to register your burn and learn more about your responsibilities.

Be Muster safe
We’ve loved seeing so many people arriving in Deniliquin to enjoy their holidays and the Deni Ute Muster.
For those of you enjoying the festival, we hope you have a fabulous time and come back again year after year to see what the amazing Muster team will do next time.
We also urge Musterers and all other people in Deniliquin this weekend to stay safe on the roads.
Police will be out in force for the usual Labour Day weekend operation.
But with so many additional cars on our road due to the influx of people here for the Muster, safety is certainly paramount.
Take extra care, and if you feel you are at all impaired, leave the car at home or delay your trip until you are right to drive.
