This year’s theme was ‘Something for Everyone’.
Hosted by the Strathbogie Shire Council, the event highlighted the diverse range of volunteer opportunities available and the significant contributions volunteers made to the community.
The celebration featured a thank-you luncheon, live music and a Q&A panel with local volunteers.
The council also launched the new Local Legends volunteer recognition program designed to honour exceptional volunteers who went above and beyond in their service.
Council administrator Peter Stephenson expressed his delight at the turnout, noting the variety of services, organisations, groups and clubs represented under the national theme.
“There really is something for everyone when it comes to volunteering in Strathbogie,” he said.
Mr Stephenson highlighted that, according to the latest ABS Census data, more than 20 per cent of Strathbogie residents volunteered in some way, well above the state and regional averages.
“On behalf of Strathbogie Shire Council and the community, I extend our sincere appreciation to the thousands of volunteers whose hard work and commitment are at the heart of our thriving community,” he said.
The National Volunteers Week event featured a light lunch catered by Euroa Butter Factory, entertainment by local musician Mason Rae-Green and an insightful panel discussion with local volunteers John Thomson, Jill Branagan and Michael Tehan. Mr Stephenson thanked the panellists for their invaluable presence, noting their expertise and passion for volunteering, demonstrating the spirit of community and its positive impact.
The event also launched council’s Local Legends awards program, a new initiative to recognise outstanding community volunteers.
A Local Legend is someone who has made a remarkable voluntary contribution, served as an inspirational role model and actively participated in activities that enhanced people’s lives in Strathbogie Shire.
Nominations for Local Legends are open and will continue until September 30.
A special event at the end of the year will acknowledge the nominees.
