Localised flooding has been reported in parts of the Southern Riverina, and sadly one death has been reported as a result of a fallen tree limb at Yarrawonga during Tuesday’s storm.
In Deniliquin, the Pastoral Times has only received reports of tree damage.
Edward River Council staff were seen cleaning up in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens early on Wednesday morning.
“We were lucky that the storm did not result in much damage to the area,” a council spokesperson said.
“Aside from a fallen limb from a willow tree in the Waring Gardens, which may require removal in the future, it was mostly business as usual.
“There was extra attention paid to drains by our outdoor teams, as is the usual case after heavy rains.”
Originally forecasted to hit the region in the early evening on Tuesday, the first storm of the week was most severe in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Just before 2am, wind speeds picked up to 43km/h, with a 61km/h gust.
Over the next two hours, the Bureau of Meteorology gauge recorded 8.8mm of rain.
A heavier rain event then hit Deniliquin about 3pm Wednesday, with much of the 8.8mm of rain recorded by the BoM in the first half hour falling in a 10 minute window.
It was accompanied by winds of up to 52km/h, and gusts of 80km/h.
The total rain recorded in the 24 hours to 9am Thursday was 10.6mm.
The BoM records the total rainfall for November to yesterday was 27.2mm, but we know that other local areas can receive more or less rain than is officially recorded.
The Pastoral Times has hear reports of one local resident recording 47mm between Sunday and yesterday in their home rain gauge.
More rain is forecast for the coming days, with an 80 per cent chance of 5-10mm expected today and tomorrow, and again on Monday.
