The NSW Australian Football Society has bestowed Deniliquin’s own Todd Marshall the honour of being selected in its honorary 2021 State of Origin side.
The 198cm key forward is the only Port Adelaide player to have been selected in the honorary side, made up of AFL footballers originally from NSW.
Also in the line-up is Finley’s Tom Hawkins, who captains the side, and is also the inaugural winner of the Mohr Medal for goalkicking (54 goals).
Marshall gets the chance to rest this weekend, ahead of a September 11 preliminary final. They will play the winner of Saturday’s match between Brisbane Lions and the Western Bulldogs.
Jr soccer in doubt
It is still unclear whether the Deniliquin & District Junior Soccer competition will be able to resume.
Play has been unable to re-start because of COVID-19 lockdown and associated rules in NSW.
And now with lockdown extended until at least September 10, junior soccer organiser Matt Crothers said youngsters may not get a chance to finish the season or play finals.
He said one final game and presentations may be held if the rules are relaxed, but only if that can occur before September 25. If play cannot resume, the team on the top of each division’s ladder will be declared season premiers.
