With the theme ‘Mental Health; It’s not as scary as you think!’, the aim of the event is to reduce stigma around mental health, have open conversations about seeking help and highlight the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’.
“This year we are really wanting to bring home the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ message - five simple things we can do regularly to increase our own wellbeing,” MHAG member Lourene Liebenberg said.
“These actions are connecting, being active, keep learning, be aware and helping others.
“While collecting treats and dressing up is a part of the excitement for everyone, we are encouraging parents and carers attending the event to be mindful of these actions while enjoying the event.
“A special Halloween ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ resource will be handed out to carers and parents with suggestions of how this can be done as part of the event.
“Everyone can play a part in embedding these important messages in our community.”
The party will run from 3pm to 5.30pm, and the starting point is outside the Multi Arts Centre in Cressy St.
Halloweeners can attend the Deni MHAG table, where a route map of businesses and services on the trick or treat route can be collected.
There will also be some pre-packed bags of resources and some treats.
The Rotary Club of Deniliquin will also be there dishing up delicious sausages in bread.
Along the Cressy St side of the Waring Gardens, service providers will have stalls and activities set up. There will be some face painting, cookie decorating, craft activities and more.
More than 30 businesses have registered to be a part of the trick or treat route, with many decorating their shops and offices to make this a great experience for everyone.
Those participating will have a sign in the window or on the door, indicating they are part of the event.
Some have agreed to stay open until 5.30pm, to cater to those unable to join the fun until later.
Halloweeners can again vote for their favourite business by returning the voting form on the street map at the end of the event.
There will also be lucky door prizes for those attending. Simply put your name and contact number on one of the cards provided to enter.
The winners of the colouring competition will be announced at the event. Entries can be viewed in the window of the Cressy Street Centre.
“We are very excited about this event, and we invite everyone to come down and have some fun at this spooktacular event,” Mrs Liebenberg said.
“This has now truly become an event for community by community with the onboarding of sponsors this year.
“We would like to thank all our supporters for making this event possible.”
