While quite a number in the CBD reported some inundation, some suffered extensive damage.
As CBD staff returned to work on Wednesday morning, they found varying levels of damage to their offices and stores.
Nourish and Betta Home Living were among those who reported minor flooding that had come through the entrances of the building.
Meanwhile, Cherrywood Emporium had minor damage to one of its back walls.
Deniliquin Jewellers appears to be one of the hardest hit, and had water steadily flowing out of the Cressy St store and into the street for most of the morning.
The store remained closed for the rest of the day while it was assessed by professionals, including a builder.
The shop remained closed yesterday while clean up continued.
The Pastoral Times office was also closed Wednesday after one of the roof panels had collapsed from the weight of the water. Our office reopened yesterday.
Most other CBD businesses were able to resume trading Wednesday morning, but some were shocked at the impact the storm had on the CBD.
Betta Home Living store manager Simon Genoff said it was one of the worst he had experienced.
“It’s very unusual, you know. Normally, these storms don’t hit in town this hard.”
With Wood St one of the most impacted by localised flooding, Clear Lifestyle Support’s office near the Wood and Napier St intersection was significantly impacted by the deluge.
The complex it shares with other businesses was surrounded by water, which Paul Clear said resulted in about “four inches” of water running right through their office.
