After several weeks of earthmoving work, it’s great to see the new Deniliquin skate park slowly taking shape.

Infrastructure to support the new-look recreational facility started being installed last week.
Demolition of the previous ramps started in February, two weeks after Edward River Council announced the rejuvenation of the Civic Place facility would begin.
The new skate park will cater for people of all ages and skill levels.
The design - developed in consultation with the community in 2022 - aims to reflect the natural landscape setting of the living lagoons ecosystems.
It is being funded by the NSW Places to Play program, with a $500,000 grant secured in March last year.
The work is being completed by Independent Concrete Construction.
Sussan samples morning tea
Yesterday morning outside of My Shop, Deniliquin a Biggest Morning Tea was held which included a raffle and a cake sale with various options.
When some of the Pastoral Times staff dropped by just after 11am, there was a group of more than 20 people involved in the morning on Napier St.
One morning tea attendee was Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley.
Chatting with PT journalist Rowan Frazer, Ms Ley commented that there is “no better morning tea anywhere in Australia”.
The morning tea was organised by Denise Phillips who wanted to “thank the amazing cooks and people who have come to support the morning tea for cancer research”.
A wrap of the morning tea, and photos, will be included in Tuesday’s edition.
National Volunteers Week raises awareness
This week, May 20 to 26, was National Volunteers Week.
Volunteers Week is a time to reflect and is an eye-opener on how they make such a huge difference to our community.
Perhaps if you see a volunteer this weekend you could thank them for their service that helps organisations run in our community.
Pooches out and about
Get your four-legged friends primped and preened, and get down to Memorial Park this weekend for the Deniliquin Business Chamber’s Doggy Day Out.
It’s part of the new a-MAY-zing Weekend event, and begins at 10am Sunday.
On Saturday, people are encouraged to “be a tourist in your own backyard” and get into the Deni CBD on Saturday to explore local shops, savour delicious food at eateries, and soak up the vibrant community spirit.
On Sunday you can take part for just a gold coin donation, and just a reminder that all dogs must be on a lead and under adequate control throughout the event.
Please also remember to bring your own doggy bags and clean up after your pooch.
Also at Memorial Park will be an Edward River Council information stand, where you can gather information about microchipping and registrations, breeders, transfer of pet ownership and steps to take if there is a barking dog in your neighbourhood.
The day also includes a best dressed competition, and practice runs for the Deni Dachshund Dash to take place later in the year at the Deni Business Chamber’s Street Bazaar.
Keep your eye out for these furry friends with loveable pooches acting as well dressed representatives for local businesses and families.
No local footy, netball
Unless you’re willing to travel, Deniliquin football and netball lovers will miss out on matches this weekend.
The Deni Rams have a week off due to the split round in the Murray League, and the Deni Rovers’ bye in the Picola League.
And Mathoura and Blighty both play away this weekend.
This is the only weekend before the end of the home and away season in August that both Deniliquin-based teams are scheduled to have the weekend off, apart from the general bye for both competitions on the July 6 weekend.
Meanwhile there is plenty of other sporting action in the region which readers can read about in today’s Pastoral Times.
Otherwise it will be a good weekend to rest and recuperate plenty of events and gatherings occurring in town or punters might have to settle for their sporting fix on the couch this weekend.
