The local primary school students were chosen at the Western Riverina AFL trials at Leeton recently.
The players selected were Harley Hicks, Charlie Paton, Charlie Bull (Deni North), Deagan Purcell (Deni South), Ben Clarke (Hay) and Rhys Drennan (Moama).
The Deni side won two of their three matches, facing off against Moulamein, Finley and the combined Leeton/Narrandera/Griffith sides.
Members of the squad will have the chance to earn a spot in the Riverina side that will compete at the NSW State Carnival held at Sydney suburb Penshurst from May 21 to 23.
Team manager Stephen Bulmer said it was a tremendous day for Deniliquin PSSA.
‘‘All players conducted themselves in a very positive manner and played well,’’ he said.
‘‘We also had two girls in the DDPSSA side for the first time with Jerrah Caruso (Deni South) and Jemika Cooper (Mathoura) playing on the day.
‘‘They both received an encouragement award from the Western Riverina PSSA for their efforts.
‘‘To have the girls getting involved is great for the future of women’s footy and is a great reflection of the positive impact the AFLW has had on the sport.’’
