Submissions in relation to the NSW Murray District Landholder Associations’ Draft Land and Water Management Plan 2022 will be accepted until 9am on Monday, May 9, 2022.
Submissions received will be considered and, if appropriate, incorporated into a final version for consideration at an application to the Court for Judicial Advice on May 25, 2022.
This application, if successful, will allow the funds to be spent under a new LWMP.
The latest LWMP has been developed on behalf of the NSW Murray Irrigation Area Landholder Associations, to provide the basis for the responsible, timely and appropriate use of the remaining LWMP funds.
Murray Irrigation deputy chair Noel Baxter encouraged landholders to visit the company’s website and view the draft LWMP 2022.
The package of initiatives proposed and the financial support that will be offered to a range of advocacy, education, research, and development activities (known as the three pillars), are consistent with the aims of the four original NSW Murray LWMPs.
They will deliver a range of real and practical benefits to the environment, landholders, and the community more generally, throughout the southern Riverina.
The plan targets delivery of benefits that address current land and water management issues impacting the sustainability and wellbeing of the region and its people.
It proposes to continue delivering works and measures that are consistent with the 1995 and 2001 LWMP objectives and are relevant to 2022 and beyond.
The process to determine suitable actions and plans for the available LWMP funds will first be debated in a public and transparent manner at the relevant landholder association meetings, which will be appropriately advertised in order to enable LWMP community members to attend and submit proposals.
Each landholder association can then instruct its representative on a committee to be formed, called the LWMP Advisory Committee, to raise the action or plan in respect of a project at the next convening of this committee.
Mr Baxter thanked the Landholder Associations, and those who participated and were involved in the original scheme for their commitment to developing the latest plan.
He encouraged the region’s landholders to view the plan on the Murray Irrigation website and, if they wish to, provide feedback make a submission before the closing time at 9am on May 9.
