Despite facing some challenging final years of schooling, students recorded some amazing academic results showing a strong sense of resilience.
Class scores and the Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks (ATAR) results were released last week.
Based on her results, Sam Hughes has been named Dux of Deniliquin High School for 2022.
She achieved an ATAR of 95.3 and had one band six result (90-100%), one E4 result (45-15 marks in an extension subject) and band five (80-90%) for all other subjects.
Sam was elated with the result of all her hard work.
“I’m super proud and I just hope all my fellow students are pleased with their scores too,” she said.
“I am planning to take a gap year and work next year, then I’m looking towards moving to Melbourne.
“I want to go into the field of science; I’m just not sure which section yet.”
Also performing well was Alyssa Townsend, who received an ATAR of 88.65.
She achieved three band five marks, two band fours (70-80%) and, in her extension classes, one E2 (25-34 marks) and one E3 (35-44).
Alyssa said it was a difficult start to the year, but she was able to settle in.
“It was an intense first term, but then I realised we are all in this together,” she said.
“Between my fellow students and teachers I had a lot of support.”
“I am still deciding between Sydney and Melbourne universities.
“I am focused on being a psychiatrist, so I have a fair few years of uni ahead.”
Hannah Ford was over the moon with her ATAR of 88.45, which means she has met the terms of her early entry to study psychology.
Hannah recorded one band six result and band five for all other subjects.
“I am going to take a gap year and do some travelling, and then I hope to start my studies in Sydney,” she said.
Also with an ATAR in the 80s - 83.3 to be exact - James Bould will be straight off to university in the new year.
“At some stage during the year panic set in, but I am happy with my results.
“I plan to go straight to university at Swinburne in Melbourne, to study engineering.
“I would like to set up a career in either civil or architectural engineering.”
James achieved one band five result in his classes, and band four in all other subjects. In his extension class he had an E2.
Lily Green’s ATAR of 76.45 will allow her to follow her dream to study to be an architect.
Lily scored one band six result, two band fives and two band four results.
“It was a very stressful year but well worth it in the end,” she said.
“We have all become a very close unit and could not have asked for a more supportive year advisor than teacher Mandi Hatton, or ‘Hatdog’ as we all fondly refer to her.
“I’m not sure if I will go to Melbourne or Sydney yet. I am just excited I achieved the marks I needed to get into my chosen field.”
Deniliquin High School also singled out Georgia Fisher and Beth Laverty as students who had good overall scores.
