Roundabout closure

The Cressy/Napier St roundabout will be closed for four weeks as the Napier Street Revitalisation project extends its reach.

The closure is scheduled to start on Monday July 29 and will re-open on Friday August 30. However, depending on weather conditions, these dates may change.

Edward River Council announced the closure last week following confirmation from the contractor that roundabout works are ready to go ahead.

General manager Adam McSwain said the next phase would build on work already underway in Napier Street and would ensure a connected and visually appealing CBD to attract and retain as much local expenditure as possible.

‘‘The works being completed are a full renewal of the road and kerb and gutter of the roundabout. Additionally updated cross-overs to improve pedestrian safety and walkability are being installed,’’ he said.

‘‘These will be similar in style to the pedestrian cross-overs being installed currently as part of the Lagoon to River walk.

‘‘It is also anticipated that three to four carparks on each side of the Cressy Street roundabout will need to be used for vehicles to turn around.

‘‘However, through access will be provided for pedestrians, and a traffic controller will be on site at all times during construction.’’

Mr McSwain said the Napier St revitalisation works are progressing well. The project is on track for completion in mid-September.
