And he would like to be in the room to make it happen.
Mr McDaid is one of 16 candidates standing for next week’s Edward River Council elections.
Having worked across a number of industries in the local area, he says he feels he has a lot to offer as a councillor.
“I have a unique understanding of local issues and believe I can help bring stability and humanity to the council,” he said.
“I would like to see council take the homelessness problem in the region and help keep our youth in town.
“I think the Edward River Council has to be forward-thinking, allowing the whole town to prosper.”
Mr McDaid first came to Deniliquin more than 30 years ago as an instructor with the local flying school.
After that, he worked in retail at Harvey Norman for 15 years, before he and his wife Tracey opened TJ’s Restaurant at the Centre Point Motel.
After another career change, Mr McDaid has worked in the public service sector for the last 15 years.
Mr McDaid also contributes to the social fabric of the district community, through a number of volunteer and organisational roles.
“I have been involved in both junior and senior soccer for the last 30 years, holding all committee positions, playing and refereeing,” he said.
“We even helped build the changing rooms at Rotary Park as our contribution to the facility.
“I was in the Apex Club that organised the Deniliquin Air Show in 2000, and am now a Friend of Rotary, volunteering to cook at lots of events.
“I have also volunteered at the Ute Muster for more than 15 years, conducting breathalyser tests to ensure festival goers got home safe.”
