Each year, volunteers led by the Rochester Fire Brigade walk throughout Rochester to collect donations.
Rochester area appeal co-ordinator Heidi Warren said despite the community members experiencing tough times, they are always eager to donate.
“Last year we raised $7936 ... it was still a really good amount for a town that was still suffering a lot,” she said.
“We were quite surprised because I thought we would top maybe $5000, and I thought even that was pushing it because everyone’s going through struggles ... so it was quite surprising to get that amount of money.
“The awesome bit is that everyone still helps out ... whether it’s door knocking, buying raffle tickets, or whatever they like to do — the community still helps out.”
The cause is especially close to Mrs Warren’s heart as her had son spent some time in the children’s hospital when he was born.
She took on the role of area manager for the cause to support the hospital that helped their son and other’s children.
The fundraiser is usually well received by the Rochester community, raising between $7000 to $9000 each year.
Mrs Warren hopes the local community can rally behind them again this year, especially by helping out on the day.
“The last couple of events, we’ve had to do a lot of it ourselves due to people not being back in their homes due to floods,” she said.
“We’re hoping it’ll be a little different this year since people are back in their homes and the community has been together more than it has been.”
Volunteers are invited to meet at the Rochester Fire Brigade station at 8.30am on Friday, April 18.
