Toys will be collected in the Deniliquin CBD this Saturday.
“Last year, with the generosity of the Deniliquin community, we were able to assist over 100 people and families with food and toys“ Sandra Whyborn from the Deniliquin Salvation Army said.
Ahead of this weekend’s official collection, members of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club, Salvation Army and Deniliquin Antique Vehicle Club met on Saturday at Curly’z Cafe to get the ball rolling on the heart-warming tradition of bringing Christmas joy to local families and children in need.
The morning’s persistent drizzle prompted the group to remind everyone that the collection will go ahead this weekend, regardless of the conditions.
“Even with the weather, we still have people coming this morning and donating” Ulysses secretary Peter Nankivell said.
Ms Whyborn said this Christmas, the Deniliquin Salvos and other groups want to give hope to those in our community who are experiencing tough times.
“There are several ways you can help the Salvos this year,” she said.
“You can make a donation to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
“You can also donate a new or pre-loved toy at the Marc Kingston Memorial Toy Run on Saturday, between 9am and noon, in Cressy St.
“All toys will be distributed to local families in need.
“And with the support of Rotary Deniliquin, the Salvos offer food relief at the Community Pantry open every Thursday from 10am to 1pm, at the Salvation Army Church, 60 Edwardes St, Deniliquin.
“If you need an extra hand this Christmas, please reach out to us. Visit the Community Pantry or the Salvos Store at 356 Cressy St or call 0400 713 038.”
